[001] The present invention relates to a secondary battery pack including a non-projecting connector, and more particularly to a secondary battery pack including a battery cell having a cathode terminal and an anode terminal formed in a surface including a sealed portion for sealing the battery cell and a protection circuit module (PCM) including a protection circuit board (PCB) having a protection circuit formed thereon, an electrically connected external input and output terminal. to the protection circuit, a connector electrically connected to the external input and output terminal, and an electrically insulating PCM box in which the PCB is mounted, in which the PCM is charged in the sealed portion in a state where the PCM is electrically connected to the battery cell and the connector is formed on the PCM in such a way that the connector does not protrude from the secondary battery. [002] As mobile devices have been increasingly developed, and the demand for these mobile devices has increased, the demand for secondary batteries has also increased sharply. Among such secondary batteries is a lithium secondary battery featuring a high energy density and operating voltage and excellent charge retention and service life characteristics, having been widely used as a power source for various electronic products as well as various types of mobile devices.
[003] Depending on the types of devices in which secondary batteries are used, the secondary batteries can be configured to have a detachable type structure in which the secondary batteries can be easily inserted and removed from the devices or a built-in type structure in which secondary batteries are built into the devices. For example, secondary batteries used in conventional mobile devices can be configured with a detachable type frame where secondary batteries can be inserted or removed from the mobile devices as needed. On the other hand, secondary batteries used in other devices, such as some mobile phones, tablet personal computers (PCs), and smart minicomputers, can be configured to have a built-in type structure.
[004] Among such secondary batteries is a lithium secondary battery, which is widely used. A secondary battery includes anode and cathode terminals electrically connected to a device in which the secondary battery is mounted and a safety element to effectively control an abnormal state of the secondary battery, such as secondary battery overload or secondary battery overcurrent. Examples of the safety element may include a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) element, and a protection circuit module (PCM).
[005] In general, an embedded type secondary battery uses a plate-shaped battery cell, which is suitable for electrical connection, and a safety element, such as a PCM, is connected to a battery cell, including terminals anode and cathode through a conductive nickel plate by soldering or soldering. The anode and cathode terminals contact anode and cathode terminal parts of the PCM in such a way that the anode and cathode terminals are electrically connected to an external input and output terminal formed on the PCM. A connector is electrically connected to the external input and output terminal.
[006] In a conventional secondary battery pack, the connector is connected to a device in a state where the connector protrudes outward from the battery pack. For this reason, it is necessary to provide the interior of the device with an additional space in which the connector is to be located, although a space necessary to form the connector is present in the battery pack.
[007] In addition, an expensive flexible board is used to interconnect the connector projecting outward from the battery and the PCM. As a result, the manufacturing cost is increased.
[008] Therefore, there is a heightened need for a secondary battery pack, from which a projecting connector is removed to improve spatial efficiency and to reduce manufacturing cost. DISCLOSURE TECHNICAL PROBLEM
[009] Therefore, the present invention was made to solve the above problems, and other technical problems that have yet to be solved.
[0010] Specifically, it is an object of the present invention to provide a secondary battery pack configured to have a structure in which a connector is formed on a protection circuit module (PCM) such that the connector does not protrude out of the from the secondary battery pack, thus preventing the generation of a dead space in a device, on which the secondary battery pack is mounted, due to the connector and reducing the manufacturing cost. TECHNICAL SOLUTION
[0011] According to one aspect of the present invention, the above and other objects may be achieved by the provision of a secondary battery pack including a battery cell having a cathode terminal and an anode terminal formed on a surface including a portion. sealed to seal the battery cell and a protection circuit module (PCM) with a protection circuit board (PCB) having a protection circuit formed therein, an external input and output terminal electrically connected to the protection circuit , a connector electrically connected to the external input and output terminal, and an electrically insulating PCM box in which the PCB is mounted, in which the PCM is charged in the sealed portion in a state where the PCM is electrically connected to the battery and connector is formed on the PCM in such a way that the connector does not protrude out of the secondary battery pack.
[0012] As described above, the secondary battery pack according to the present invention is configured to have a structure in which the connector is formed in the PCM such that the connector does not protrude out from the battery pack. Therefore, it is possible to minimize a defined space in a device, in which the connector will be mounted. Also, a flexible board extending between the PCM and the connector is removed. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the manufacturing cost.
[0013] In a preferred example, the cathode terminal and the anode terminal of the battery cell can be electrically connected to the printed circuit board and the external input and output terminal can be formed on the PCB such that the terminal External input and output is electrically connected to the cathode terminal and the anode terminal of the battery cell.
[0014] For example, the connector can be directly coupled to the external input and output terminal without the use of an additional member, thereby achieving the electrical connection from the cathode terminal and the anode terminal of the battery cell to the connector through the PCB and the external input and output terminal.
[0015] Unlike the structure in which the connector is directly coupled to the outer input and output terminal, as described above, an electrical connection member can be interposed between the outer input and output terminal and the connector to achieve electrical connection between the external input and output terminal and the connector.
[0016] In this case, the electrical connection member may be a flexible printed circuit board (FPCB). However, the present invention is not limited to this. Even in this case, the connector is arranged on the PCM in such a way that the connector does not protrude out from the secondary battery pack. Therefore, this structure is differentiated from a conventional structure.
[0017] In a concrete example, the PCM box can be provided with an opening, through which the connector is exposed to the outside.
[0018] Specifically, the PCM box may include a first box member and a second box member coupled together while surrounding the PCB.
[0019] The second box member can be configured to have an open box structure on one of its surfaces so that the PCM is inserted and mounted on the second box member and the first box member can be provided in one of its sides with an opening, through which the connector is exposed.
[0020] In a concrete example, the PCB can be provided on one surface thereof with the external input and output terminal and on the other of its surfaces with an anode terminal connection part and a terminal connection part of cathode corresponding to the anode terminal and the cathode terminal, respectively.
[0021] A nickel plate can be further mounted on a top of the cathode lead to be coupled to the cathode lead connection part by ultrasonic welding.
[0022] A safety element can be further mounted in an electrical connection region between one of the battery cell electrode terminals and the PCB.
[0023] Specifically, the safety element can be a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) element or a fuse. However, the present invention is not limited to this.
[0024] The secondary battery according to the present invention can be configured to have a structure in which a label is connected to the battery cell and the PCM excluding the connector in an enveloping fashion.
[0025] Specifically, the label may be configured to have a structure that is capable of enclosing a thermally bonded outer circumferential surface of the battery cell and the PCM excluding the connector.
[0026] The battery cell may be a secondary battery having an electrode assembly of a cathode / separator / anode structure received in a battery box made of a laminated sheet comprising a metal layer and a resin layer on a sealed state.
[0027] According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a protection circuit module (PCM) mounted on a sealed portion of a plate-shaped battery cell having a cathode terminal and an anode terminal, each of which is made of a plate-shaped conductive member formed at an upper end thereof, the PCM including a PCB having a protection circuit formed therein, an external input and output terminal electrically connected to the protection circuit, a connector electrically connected to the external input and output terminal, and an electrically insulating PCM box in which the PCB is mounted, in which the printed circuit board is electrically connected to the cathode terminal and the anode terminal of the battery cell and the connector is mounted on the external input and output terminal in such a way that the connector does not protrude out from the PCM box.
[0028] The connector can be directly coupled to the external input and output terminal. According to the circumstances, an electrical connection member can be interposed between the outer input and output terminal and the connector to achieve electrical connection between the outer input and output terminal and the connector.

[0030] According to another aspect of the present invention, a device including the secondary battery pack of the aforementioned construction is provided.

[0048] As is apparent from the above description, a secondary battery pack according to the present invention is configured to have a structure in which a connector is formed on a protection circuit module (PCM), such that the connector does not protrude from the battery pack. Therefore, it is possible to minimize a defined space in a device, in which the connector will be mounted. Also, a flexible board extending between the PCM and the connector is removed. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the manufacturing cost.

8. Secondary battery pack (10) according to claim 7, characterized in that the label (600) is configured to have a structure capable of enclosing a thermally bonded outer circumferential surface of the battery cell (100) and the PCM (500) excluding the connector (400).
